MLT Team Lead- Burkeville-Full time, Days

The Lead MLT supervises, coordinates, and participates in a variety of advanced and complex technical tasks to include chemical microscopic bacteriologic and other medical laboratory tests and examinations to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease; record determination and results for review by physicians or pathologists. This position supports the Laboratory Manager/Director.

Responsibilities

Provides care appropriate to the age, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient served

Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases and enter findings into computer

Analyzes the results of tests or calibrations and quality control results to ensure conformity to specifications, using standards, processes and procedures

Performs and evaluates lab tests on patients of all ages in accordance with departmental policies and procedures

Performs phlebotomy procedures

Maintains/records strict Quality Control on all test procedures and instruments in accordance with departmental protocol

Calibrates, troubleshoots, performs preventative maintenance on various instruments and documents all pertinent information in accordance with departmental protocols

Assists with departmental activities in Quality Assurance, Transfusion services, TQM, and productivity analysis as needed

Conducts duties in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), and/or Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards

Performs clerical duties associated with test reporting, delivery, maintenance and retrieval

Serves as a trainer for Laboratory Information System (LIS) as assigned

Performs standard training documentation checks for new employees and annual competency documentation as outlined in Laboratory Policy and Procedures as assigned

Mentors and coaches laboratory co-workers including phlebotomy and lab assistants

For Centra Lynchburg Hematology Oncology and Centra Southside Hematology Oncology only: Laboratory staff assist providers setting up for bone marrow aspiration and biopsy procedure. Access to local anesthetics, such as Lidocaine, Xylocaine and Carbocyanine, to assist with the procedure is required

Qualifications

Required Education: Associates Degree in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science OR Successful completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Technician program ORASCP qualified by years of experience

Required Experience: At least three (3+) years of experience working as a laboratory technologist/technician. Leadership, supervisory, and/or personnel management skills

Required Certifications and Licensures: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Certifying Agency (NCA), or American Medical Technology (AMT)
