Job Summary
At Koala Health, we have our eyes set on an ambitious goal: to make managing your pet’s health simple and delightful. We’ve already launched our pharmacy service that allows people to shop for their pets’ medications and supplements online and get them delivered to their doorstep in presorted medication pouches. Now we’re focused on continuing to improve that experience while building a suite of new products and services that will make the pet health experience even better.
Koala Health is seeking a Pharmacist to oversee daily pharmacy operations, ensure exceptional clinical care, and support the development of a high-performing pharmacy technician team. This role blends hands-on clinical responsibilities with leadership, coaching, and operational oversight. The ideal candidate is customer-centric, team-oriented, and committed to delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate pharmacy service to pets and their families.
Core Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day pharmacy technician workflows, staffing, and task delegation.Ensure technicians are properly trained, supported, and prepared for changing volume demands.Participate in recruiting and hiring; communicate staffing needs and pharmacist-to-tech ratio concerns to Leadership and People Operations.Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and quarterly development check-ins; recognize strong performance.Address performance gaps through coaching, documentation, and corrective action when necessary.Review and approve timekeeping, PTO requests, and adherence to labor policies.Monitor daily backlog and workflow metrics; adjust team assignments based on operational needs.Lead or participate in daily team huddles to communicate priorities and expectations.Provide expert consultations to customers on medication use, interactions, side effects, dosing, and storage.Communicate with veterinarians to obtain, clarify, or modify prescriptions and provide therapeutic guidance.Enter and review prescriptions with exceptional accuracy.Dispense, check, package, and ship medication orders.Participate in Koala’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program, identifying and preventing prescription errors.Serve as pharmacist on duty as required.Order, receive, and stock medications according to company policies and regulatory standards.Maintain proper storage, security, and handling of all medications.Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations and practice standards.Support maintenance of accurate prescription and recordkeeping systems.Perform additional duties to support safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations.Foster a positive, inclusive, and values-driven culture within the pharmacy.Address morale concerns proactively and support a collaborative team environment.Promote open communication and an accessible leadership style.Recognize and celebrate team members who exemplify Koala Health’s Core Values.
Requirements
Ability to commute to office office Monday - Friday to Boston, MA HeadquartersMinimum of 4+ years of pharmacy experienceDoctor of Pharmacy or equivalent degreeActive/Unrestricted Pharmacist license in good standing with Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy and other licensed jurisdictionsStrong understanding of pharmacy regulations, workflows, and clinical best practicesDemonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teamsExcellent communication and customer service skillsStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and safetyAbility to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving work environmentNot on the DEA Excluded Parties List / free of pending felony charges or convictions for criminal offenses involving controlled substances
